What are the most (and least) important qualities in a relationship? Children in Year 5 worked in groups to make their decisions in RHE (Relationships and Health Education) last week. A great discussion followed, but all groups did agree in the end that how someone looks is the least important factor, preferring how people are treated. The children also made decisions about a variety of scenarios to decide whether choices being made support a healthy or unhealthy relationship. . #eltham #se9 #greenwich #london

WG Grace Class, in Year 5, launched our series of weekly class Collective Worships in incredible style. The children presented information about what they had been learning about this year, with a particular focus on what they have learnt about the Ancient Greeks. Children in Years 5 & 6 had enormous pleasure being invited to watch the Eltham Hill School production of Annie just before half term. Children in Year 3 recently visited a local Mandir, a Hindu temple/place of worship. The children were able to gain a greater understanding of how Hindus worship and were also able to observe, close up, statues of the different Hindu Gods. They drew some wonderful sketches of the Hindu God statues.  . #eltham #se9 #greenwich #london

The whole school came together in two separate services at @elthamparish Church last week to celebrate Candlemas; a Christian festival celebrated on 2nd February to mark the 40th and final day of the Christmas season. This day also marks when baby Jesus was presented to God in the Temple at Jerusalem - Luke2:22-40. The Worship Committee led the prayers and all children held a candle aloft when singing a hymn about Jesus being the Light of the world. . #candlemas #eltham #se9 #greenwich #london

Last week, children in KS2 had their imaginations ignited by the wonderful characters in 'Magicalia', by author, Jennifer Bell @jenbellauthor. Year 4 were privileged to have an extra workshop when the children designed their own Magicores: creatures based on emotions. They had to think about how their chosen emotion makes them feel, the sounds, tastes, smells and colours they'd associate with it as well as what animal it was most like. In RE, children in Year 1 have been exploring how Jewish families mark the end of Shabbat; with the Havdalah ceremony. They looked at how Havdalah is celebrated and thought about the importance to Jewish Families. Year 1 shaped, plaited and painted their own Havdalah candle, which symbolises the end of Shabbat. The Eco Committee took part in the @RSPB Big Schools' Birdwatch. It was a lot of fun and they saw many more birds than they thought they would. Year 5 took science to the playground to see the chemical reaction when mentoes are added to diet cola. They noticed the physical change where carbon dioxide dissolved in the cola reacted when the mentoes were added. . #eltham #se9 #greenwich #london #ks2science

For their topic 'Where in the World' children in Reception have been learning about the continents. They looked at the continent of Europe and some of the countries in it. They paid particular attention to Italy, so decided to make an Italian favourite - pasta! The children made the dough using plain flour and water. They then kneaded it and let it prove and rest. Finally, they used a pasta board to make cavatelli shapes and then cooked and served it, ready to eat. It was delicious! . #eyfscooking #cookingfromscratch #realfood #eltham #se9 #greenwich #london

Year 3 children paid a special visit to Reception last week as they wanted to share the books they had written with them in French. Year 3 children have been reading the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar (La Chenille qui fait des Trous) in French, from which they have learnt the days of the week and learnt how to use a French dictionary to look up different fruit and vegetables. This all led to them being able to write their very own versions of the story, which they also illustrated.
