Year 5 children have been getting very creative in art this term. After personalising the front covers of their creative journals, they have been exploring subtractive drawing techniques, inspired by expressionist artist, Frank Auerbach. The upper and lower schools attended Harvest Festival services at @elthamparish to give thanks and bring donations for the local food bank. Each year group prepared artwork, poetry, readings or songs to remind us to look after all that God has created for us. Year 6 children are learning about atoms and what makes up an atom in Science as part of their unit about electricity. They learnt that atoms are the smallest building blocks of matter and make up everything around us. The children worked in groups to create their own diagram of an atom using skittles and then they labelled the various parts. . #ks2science #se9 #eltham #greenwich #london

In Worship today, Revd Caroline taught us about the Archangel Michael and the Christian feast of St Michael and All Angels, or Michaelmas, and shared with us that this special festival marks the 10th anniversary of her being ordained as a priest. Year 3 pupils wrote a letter to our local MP, Clive Efford, @cliveeffordmp in July when they were in Year 2. They had been learning about the Amazon rainforest in their Geography lessons and were identified by their teachers as being really passionate about the rainforest and what is happening to it as a result of deforestation. The children wrote to our local MP about this and wanted to know what more Eltham can do to help. Just 2 weeks into the new school term and our school choir were already performing! Over 40 children from our school choir performed at the @royal_greenwich Eltham Weekender, bringing quite a crowd with them too. Our children and families enjoyed free crafts and face-painting and browsing the various stalls. A massive well done to the Eco Committee 2024-25 who worked so hard last year to have just achieved the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award 2025. The Eco Committee, guided by Mrs Masterson, followed a seven-step programme and delivered on pupil-led projects and innovations. Curriculum enrichment activities got off to a quick start in Year 6 this term as the year group went on their first trip on only their 2nd day back to school! The children boarded the @terriblethamestour by Tower Bridge and proceeded to learn some gruesome #HorribleHistories tales about the history of the River Thames, including the Great Fire of London and Guy Fawkes and enjoyed seeing lots of the Capital's landmarks too. The children loved the trip and were so well behaved despite getting drenched on the way there and way back! Their moods were lightened at London Bridge Station where they came across a busker singing songs they are familiar with in Collective Worship, so got the opportunity to join in. We had to say a very sad farewell to 5 wonderful members of staff today. Mr Tibbert and Miss Lovekin are off to develop their careers in new schools, whereas Mrs Hayes, Mrs Vagg and Mrs Leung are retiring after many years of service to us here at #ElthamCE. Mrs Vagg has been working with us for an incredible 29 years! KS2 shared a special service at @elthamparish on Friday morning as we gathered together to send our Year 6 children on their way. Each child was welcomed to receive a blessing from Revd Caroline and was presented with their own Bible, donated by the Elizabeth Legatt Foundation. They really have been an absolute pleasure to teach throughout their time at #ElthamCE and we will miss their enthusiasm in daily worship, as play leaders at lunch times and for being such a positive bunch. This year's Year 6 production truly was "The Greatest Show". The group songs with harmonies, the solos (wow!), the transitions on and off stage, the obvious team work to make this all happen and a tonne of enthusiasm made this an outstanding production. The #royalgreenwichmusicservice music teachers have been teaching our Year 3 children how to play the djembe drums and ukulele this year, so it was lovely to be able to invite parents and children in years 5 & 6 to come along and enjoy their performance on Friday afternoon. Two Year 4 cricket teams competed against 23 other teams from across the Greenwich borough and came 1st and 3rd overall.
